Statistical information necessary for policy decision: Gaur

Shimla, Sep 3 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Raj Krishan Gaur today emphasised the need for accurate quantitative and qualitative statistical information for taking correct policy decisions.

Speaking at the five day Central Training Course in Labour and Price Statistics, organized by Central Labour Bureau in collaboration with State Labour Bureau Department here, he said in the era of globalization accuragte and timely statistics held was essential for better implementation of people oriented policies and programmes .

Mr Gaur said labour statistics held in providing vital inputs for formation of suitable labour policies, besides sugesting measures to improve the condition of different segements fo labour force in the counrty.

The Index numbers compiled by Labour Bueau were utilized for revision of wages, determination of variable dearness allowances, measuring inflationary trend and policy formulation, he said.

He stressed upon the need to update knowledge, methodology and latest information technology by Central and State Level Agencies engaged in collection, processing, analysis and dissemination of the statistics so that they could keep abreast with the latest development in the field.

The present training programme would be helpful for better quality and services to people and make imporovement in the quality contents and coverage of the labour statistics, he said.
