Landslide cuts off Queen of Hills

Darjeeling, Sep 3 (UNI) Landslide triggered by week-long torrents cut off Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills, from the rest of West Bengal.

Darjeeling saw landslides at six places between Tindharia and Rong-Tong of Kurseong sub-division this morning.

Landslips occurred at six places along National Highway 55, which connects Darjeeling with rest of the state. Tracks of the heritage toy train had also been affected.

District police chief Rajesh Suborno told UNI that NH-55 had been closed since debris came down and damaged the road. The police and local people were trying to remove rocks and boulders from the road.

Mr Suborno said the road would remain closed till the rocks were removed. He said there was no report of any casualty or injury.
