'Fake scribes' held in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 3 (UNI) Police have arrested two persons posing as journalists and attempting to extort rpt extort money from three Village Administrative Officers here yesterday.

Police said Chandramohan and Ranganathan of Perambalur and Erayasamuthiram village respectively had approached the VAOs and demanded Rs 10,000 for not publishing a news item about the bribes received by them.

Based on a complaint from the three VAOs, police arrested the 'fake scribes' and seized a number of fake identity cards of popular journals and periodicals from them. A two-wheeler used by them was also seized.

Later, they were remanded to judicial custody.
