Consumer Forums oppose revision of power tariff

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) Various trade and commerce, consumer forums, farmers and housing societies today opposed the revision of power tariff of Rs 0.99 paise per unit by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) saying that it would lead to an ''adverse chain reaction'' in their presentation before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission.

A Consumer Care Society representative told the Commission headed by CITU President K P Pande that the BESCOM had shown a surplus of Rs 265 crore and the tariff could be reduced to that extent and if not to the full level of savings of Rs 1,452 crore.

FKCCI, BCCI and other organisations urged the Commission to help the Consumer Forums to take active role in the rationalisation of power tariff.

The BESCOM officials, in their power tariff revision petition to the Commission had said it planned to take up several fresh initiatives for improving the quality and reliability of power supply and speedy fault locations and restoration and integration of IT activities through a network control in the city.
