AIADMK to agitate on farmers' issues on Sept 5

Chennai, Sep 3: The main Opposition AIADMK will stage a demonstration in front of the Thanjavur District Collectorate on September 5, condemning the DMK Government for failing to protect the interests of farmers.

In a statement here, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa alleged that due to the DMK Government's policy, there was a demand for procurement of seeds and fertilisers and farmers were forced to purchase it from outside at higher prices.

Accusing the DMK Government of having failed to redress the grievances of ryots, she said the demonstration was to urge the Government to provide loans to farmers through cooperatives without any condition and to ensure adequate supply of seeds and fertilisers.

Various wings of the party would participate in the agitation, she added.
