Woman armed with sickle creates flutter

Madurai, Sep 2 (UNI) A 45-year-old woman, armed with a sickle, created a flutter by boarding the car of Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) Supremo Vaiko at the Railway Junction here today.

Police sources said the woman identified as Bhagya Lakshmi, a nurse hailing from Nazareth in Tuticorin District was taken into custody, when she got into the car, parked outside the railway junction to receive the leader.

The woman, who appeared to be mentally retarded was sitting inside the car, which went unnoticed by the partymen and the cops.

As soon as Mr Vaiko arrived from Chennai, he found the woman sitting inside the car and enquired about her. Only then the partymen came to know of her presence.

When they asked her to alight from the car, she refused to do so and indulged in a wordy duel with them.

Soon, the police took her into custody. However, the police did not register any case against her as the party members had not lodged any written complaint.

Later, Mr Vaiko proceeded to attend a marriage function.
