Pak Army, Govt cannot take on terrorism: Musharraf
Islamabad, Sept 2: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has asked all segments of society to come forward to combat terrorism and extremism, as the government and the army cannot handle this task alone.
He said, terrorism, extremism and militancy posed a potential threat to the country and that the whole nation would have to counter this scourge with strength, harmony and unity.
He said if the people did not succeed in overcoming terrorism, the “past eight years of hard work and economic growth will go to waste".
He said most of the people in the country were moderate and were opposed to terrorism and extremism.
Regretfully, only a handful of people were hatching a conspiracy to malign Islam that the nation needed to thwart, he said.
“We have to reach the masterminds who tempt innocent people into pursuing the path of terrorism," the Daily Times quoted General Musharraf as saying.
General Musharraf further urged religious leaders to project the real image of Islam, and raise their voice against the elements that exploit Islam for their own personal interests.
