Oscar to examine metro status for B'lore
Bangalore, Sep 2 (UNI) Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes today gave an assurance to examine the demand for granting A-1 status to the city.
Addresing a conference organised by the All India Postal Employees (Bangalore West Division) here today, Mr Fernandes said he would look into their demand for notifying the Karnataka capital as a metro city and grant it A-1 status as soon as possible.
The demand comes in the wake of the Centre granting a similar status to Hyderabad for the purpose of house rent allowance (HRA).
Praising the Postal Department for its dedicated service to the people of the country, he said there was a need for remodelling the department to make it more active in extending service to the rural poor.
