Merajuddin Patel to head Karnataka unit of JD(S)

Bangalore, Sep 2 (UNI) Janata Dal(S) National President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda today announced the appointment of Mr Merajuddin Patel as new president of the party state unit.

Addressing a minority conference here, he said Mr Patel was appointed following a request from Home Minister M P Prakash to relieve him from the party's President post as he was finding it difficult to take part in party programmes.

Mr Patel would assume charge tomorrow afternoon in the city, he said.

He said as part of revamping the party, he plans new appointments to the posts at the state level, including women, minority and backward class wings.

The state government was planning to issue possession certificates to hutment dwellers living in five km radius of Municipal Corporations and Municipalities, he said adding Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would make an official announcement in this regard today itself.
