Lessons from previous failure helped mission: Official

Sriharikota, AP, Sep 2 (UNI) Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre Director B N Suresh today said the modifications suggested by the Failure Analysis Committee (FAC) set up to probe the GSLV-F02 debacle were incorporated in the GSLV-F04 Mission today, making it a success.

Speaking to UNI here, he said the FAC set up by the ISRO went into the causes of the failed GSLV-F02 mission.

To ensure a perfect launch, a number of modifications suggested by the committee were 100 per cent incorporated in this mission.

''A lot of care was taken in preparation of the vehicle and all quality norms were implemented. We got fruitful results today,'' he said.

Asked about holding up of the launch 15 seconds before the scheduled lift off at 1621 hrs, Mr Suresh said the signal related to readiness of the cyro stage did not come to the automatic launch sequence programme (ALSP) which takes over the entire launch operations 12 minutes before lift-off.

The ALSP makes complete checks of thousands of parameters before the launch and since it did not get the readiness signals from the zero stage, it automatically put the launch on hold.

''We took time to rectify the snag and rescheduled the launch at 1820 hrs. It was successful,'' Mr Suresh added.
