Centre initiates bamboo projects in Northeast

Agartala, Sep 2 (UNI) The Centre has initiated the National Mission on Bamboo Applications(NMBA) project to develop, validate and demonstrate technologies for value-added products using bamboo as raw material in the Northeast.

Forest officials said here today that as part of the mission, gasifiers using bamboo waste and other biomass as raw material have been developed for generation of electricity.

Besides, the NE, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, where bamboo is available in abundance, had also been asked to use these gasifiers for electricity generation, officials stated.
