Youth arrested for killing Kanpur-based doctor

Lucknow, Sep 1 (UNI) Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested a youth accused of killing and robbing a Kanpur-based doctor aboard the Kanpur-Delhi Shram Shakti Express on August 27.

Addressing a news conference here this afternoon, ADG (crime and law and order) Brijlal also presented the criminal, Brijesh Kumar Verma, before the media.

Dr Anurag Mittal was travelling in the AC first class compartment to Delhi on the train when Verma strangled him in his sleep in Hathras and threw down the body from the running train.

Verma travelled till Delhi and fled with cash amounting rs one lakh, 8,000 US dollars and two cell phones had looked from the doctor.

On August 24, the criminal had even conducted a recee aboard the Express to know its stoppages and timings and it was by chance that Dr Mittal was travelling that night.

The medico's body was found on railway tracks in Hathras the following day.

Earlier, Verma had once been arrested in Dehra Dun for autolifting.

He had arrived in Lucknow to exchange the dollars when he was arrested by the police in Chowk area.

Meanwhile, police recovered the US dollars, a motorcycle, a laptop, two mobile phones from Verma's possession.
