Villagers protest police inaction in rape case

Karur, Sep 1 (UNI) Tension prevailed for about an hour at Mettur Maruthur village as a section of the villagers laid siege to All Women Police Station at Kulithalai near here today in protest against police's inaction on two persons, including a DMK functionary in connection with a rape case.

According to police, Dhantapani and DMK's Agriculture Wing District Deputy Convener Pitchaimuthu allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl a couple of days back, while her parents were away.

The victim's parents filed a complaint at the All Women Police Station yesterday.

But the police failed to take any action on the complaint till this evening.

On information, the police officials, who rushed to the spot registered cases against the accused and restored the traffic on the Karur-Tiruchirapalli National Highway, which was affected due to the protest.
