Rain lashes many areas in north-west region

Chandigarh, Sep 1 (UNI) Moderate rain lashed many areas in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh since last night, providing respite from humid weather conditions in the region.

Heavy rain pounded Shahpur Kandi, turning it the wettest place in Punjab, recording 47.4 mm rainfall, followed by Ranjit Sagar Dam site measuring 26.6 mm downpour overnight.

Amritsar and Madopur, near Pathankot, also had moderate rain last night, recording 14.6 mm and 13.0 mm rainfall respectively. Nangal Dam site registered 3.8 mm while Ludhiana reported trace rainfall.

Certain areas in Haryana also experienced rain with Chachroli recording 12.0 mm, Narnaul 7.0 mm and Karnal 3.2 mm downpour. Ambala had trace rainfall.

Light to moderate rain lashed isolated areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts, triggering landslides at some places.

Guler was the wettest place in the state, recording 25.0 mm rain till this morning, followed by Sundernagar measuring 19.0 mm, Nagrota Surian 10.0 mm and Pandoh 6.0 mm rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were lashed by moderate rainfall with the capital town recording 5.9 mm downpour overnight.

Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda and others tourist places of Manali in Kullu district also experienced rainfall forcing tourists to stay indoors. Manali recorded 12.2 mm rainfall.

Humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas which remained enveloped in monsoon clouds. The city, which had trace rainfall overnight, recorded the maximum humidity at 92 per cent and the minimum at 59 per cent.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
