Ahmedabad, Sep 1 (UNI) Only one riot-affected person from Ahmedabad city appeared before the Nanavati-Shah Commission today to voice his grievances.

With this, the Commission today completed the hearing of grievances of riot-affected people, who had not deposed before the Commission earlier, from Kalupur, Shaherkotla, Khada and Gaiwad Haveli areas of the city.

However, just one person from Saraspur area under the Shaherkotla police station presented his case and nobody else turned up from other areas.

Hyder Ali, while deposing before the Commission, said he had sustained losses to the tune of Rs 1.80 lakh during the 2002 riots and sought a compensation of a like amount. He submitted relevant documents before the Commission to substantiate his claims.

Mr Ali told the Commission that he was approaching the panel for the first time since the incident happened five years back. At this, the Commission expressed surprise while pointing out that regular advertisements were inserted in newspapers urging the riot-affected people to approach the Commission.

Mr Ali told the Commission he had, earlier, petitioned the Prime Minister and had also submitted his claim papers before the Ahmedabad Collector in December 2006. But, he failed to receive any compensation yet.

Meanwhile, the Commission fixed September 3 as the last date for hearing the grievances of riot-affected people from Dariapur, Shahibaug and Sardarnagar areas of the city. The Commission will also hear the controversial compact disc containing data of telephone calls between policemen, politicians and rioteers.
