Govt committed to the development of regional languages: Modi

Patna, Sep 1 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said here today that his government was committed to the development of regional languages and writers.

Speaking at the release of a Bhojpuri book by Dr Mahamaya Prasad, Mr Modi said the impact of the Bhojpuri language could be felt not only in the country but throughout the world.

He maintained that the Bhojpuri-speaking people must preserve their identity by learning from the Bengali, Oriya, Kannada, Telegu, Malyalam and Assamese people, who were intrinsically associated with their lingua franca.

Presiding over the function, Acharya Kunal Kishore said the Bhojpuri people inherited an immortal culture derived from Vedic literature.

He said the people must be proud of the fact that the renowned Banabhatta, author of the historical masterpiece ''Kadambri'', was a native of the Bhojpuri belt.
