Patna, Sept 1 (UNI) Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader C P Thakur today said the work plan formulated to control floods during his tenure should be launched immediately for a permanent solution to the problem.

After touring the flood ravaged district of Darbhanga, Dr Thakur told newspersons here that he had constituted a committee for finding a permanent solution to the flood problem during his tenure as the Union Water Resources Minister.

Dr Thakur said he had initiated a dialogue with the Nepal government for construction of high dams and launching of extensive afforestation programmes in that country and the initiation of hydro power projects and fisheries between Bihar and Nepal.

These projects were ''unfortunately'' dumped, he said and urged the state government to take initiatives for revitalising all the projects in the interest of the state.

Expressing apprehensions for the spread of diseases in the flood affected areas, he said that preventive measures should be taken up immediately. Dr Thakur also visited kalazar patients in Darbhanga medical college Hospital during his visit.
