Deve Gowda rules out alliance with BJP in LB elections

Bangalore, Sep 1 (UNI) Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) National President H D Deve Gowda today ruled out the possibility of his party having alliance with the coalition partner BJP during the Local Bodies (LB) polls in the State.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the JD(S) would not have any truck with the BJP and would field its candidates only where the party had winning chances.

''We will not field candidates in all the 8,000 posts. Where there is no chance of winning, we will remain neutral after consulting local leaders,'' he said.

Mr Gowda said he would commence his state tour from tomorrow and launch the election campaign from Karwar.

Replying to a question, he said the Local Body elections would not be a referendum on the JD(S)-BJP coalition government.
