Attempt to burn woman alive, cop suspended

Jaunpur, Sep 1 (UNI) A woman was allegedly set on fire, following a property dispute in Meerganj area here today.

ASP N P Singh said the incident took place at Ramgarh, where an old dispute between Haseena Begum and Masoor Ali for the encroachment of the house turned ugly.

A woman, who opposed the police move of allegedly favouring the other party, was attempted to be burnt alive.

Mr Singh said when the incident occurred, station officer Birendra Kumar was present on the spot. Therefore, it was his duty to prevent the situation and maintain peace in the area.

Kumar has been suspended with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, police in strength had been deployed in the area and the victim was admitted to hospital.

The situation, at present, was stated under control.
