AIADMK partymen held for decrying TN government for neglect

Chennai, Sep 1 (UNI) About 64 AIADMK workers, including MLA V P Kalairajan, were arrested when they removed garbage in various parts of the city during the last few days.

The garbage clearing was earlier entrusted to Onyx,a private company, whose contract with the city Corporation had ended recently. The fresh contract was given to a company called 'Neel Metal Fanalca', which was yet to begin work due to lack of experience.

Following this, garbage had piled up in several parts of the city, emanating foul smell, posing health hazard.

In the wake of a call given by AIADMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK workers started removing the garbage in about 500 areas in the city.

AIADMK MLAs P K Sekar Babu and former Minister D Jayakumar, party leaders Madhusoodanan, Balaganga, Ms Valarmathi and MP Mr Maitreyan, cleaned up the garbage.

However, Mr Kalairajan and his supporters were arrested for allegedly shouting slogans denouncing the ruling DMK government for allowing the garbage to pile up.
