Villagers manhandle CIDCO officials
Nashik, Aug 31 (UNI) Farmers at Vilholi village today beat up two CIDCO officials them and locked them in the gram panchayat office.
According to sources, the CIDCO administration is in the process of acquiring 2750 acres of land in Vilholi and other villages after instructing the revenue department to insert remarks on the 7/12 extracts that these land cannot be sold by the farmers.
Upon a representation by the farmers, district collector S Chokkalingam has constituted a study group. Despite this, four CIDCO officials reached the Vilholi village today to carry out land measurements.
Angry villagers beat up two of the CIDCO officials -- R P Deshpande and Sudhir Deshmukh and locked them up in the gram panchayat office.
Earlier, too, the CIDCO had acquired 900 acres of land from Nashik city but, even after 30 years, the original holders of the land have not been compensated, the villagers have alleged.
