Mortar raid on US base kills Afghan civilians-official

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Aug 31 (Reuters) At least 10 Afghan civilians, including women and children, were killed today during a mortar attack aimed at a US base in the eastern province of Kunar, a provincial official said.

The attack hit a residential area close to the base in Chawki district of the province which lies close to the border with Pakistan, district chief Mohammad Zahir said.
