Mirani is PPP's choice as caretaker prime minister

Lahore, Aug 31: Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has named former Sindh Chief Minister Aftab Shaaban Mirani as the Pakistan People"s Party (PPP) candidate for caretaker Prime Minister. Bhutto named Mirani as her choice in a meeting with Tariq Aziz and Inter Services Intelligence chief Lt General Ashfaq Kiani, said sources privy to the negotiations.

Mirani served as Sindh Chief Minister during Bhutto"s first term as Prime Minister and as federal Defence Minister during her second term.

The PPP"s senior leadership was consulted on this issue in their last meeting in London.

According to the Daily Times, Mirani has already told the party that he is not interested in contesting the elections, but is willing to act as caretaker Prime Minister.
