JK: Justice Raina to head Accountability comm

Srinagar, Aug 31: Justice (Retd) G L Raina has been appointed the acting chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir State Accountability Commission.

State Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha in his order said Justice Raina will act as the chairperson of the commission until the vacancy is filled, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Taj Mohiuddin said.

The appointment of Chairperson for Jammu and Kashmir State Women's Commission was under active consideration of the government, Mr Mohiuddin added.

''As per Rule 15 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, the Chairperson has the powers to constitute Benchs and distribute business of the Commission to them as may be constituted from time to time by the Chairperson and do such work as may be allotted to them by the Chairperson in his discretion,'' he further said.

In view of this position, even a single member could give his findings and recommendation, Mr Mohiuddin maintained and added that there was no provision of quorum and the Bench could be of single member also and his findings and recommendations were valid under the provision of the Act and the Rules.

The Minister assured that the Chairperson for State Women's Commission would be appointed soon.
