3 UP farmers excel sugarcane prod

Lucknow, Aug 31: Three Uttar Pradesh farmers have secured first rank in the sugarcane production competition.

Manvendra Singh, Rajpal Singh and Sayyed Kalbe Hassan, hailing from Lakhimpur Kheri, Saharanpur and Sitapur districts respectively, would be awarded a gold medal along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each at a function to be held in the state capital city, sugarcane commissioner Kamran Rizvi said here yesterday.

While Manvendra produced 199.7 tonne sugarcane, Rajpal 194.4 and Kalbe 192.3.

Mr Rizvi added such three-tier competitions are seldom held across UP, in which almost 1,000 farmers participate. The main motive behind is to enlighten peasants about scientific farming.
