Stop speculation on poll dates: Babbar

Ahmedabad, Aug 30 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Babbar today clarified that no date has been fixed for the State Assembly elections as yet.

Mr Babbar's clarification came in the wake of a number of media (both newspapers and electronic) reporting about the possible dates of the Assembly elections.

''These reports are baseless. Neither the Election Commission of India nor his office have taken any decision in this regard,'' he said in a release here today.

The EC, a fully autonomous body, will take the decision regarding the elections to the Assembly at an appropriate time, taking all necessary factors into consideration,'' Mr Babbar added.
