Postal dept gives the logistics posts a smart look

Agartala, Aug 30 (UNI) The postal department in Northeast has remodelled the existing logistics posts of the region by converting it into fast mail.

The India Postal Freighter was launched in all the major NE destinations last week in Kolkata-Guwahati-Imphal-Agartala-Kolkata route.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Director of Postal Services in Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur, T Mawnminthang, said considering the remoteness of the region, the Centre has launched a freighter of 15 tonnes capacity to carry postal articles from these three states to Kolkata.

''The logistic post will continue to be operated by surface but any consignment weighing 10 kg or more will be booked as Logistic Post Air at promotional price up to November 29,'' Mr Mawnminthang stated.

The department has also started door to door postal service from the region and under which the department would pick up the consignment from the customer's doorstep.

One more aircraft would be introduced soon to link other state capitals, including Shillong, he said.

The Airport Authority of India had finalised the schedule of cargo plane managed by the postal department among NE states connecting Kolkata.
