Nawaz Sharif to return home on September 10
London, Aug 30: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will return home on September 10, seven years after he along with his family went into exile under an agreement reached with the military regime of General Pervez Musharraf.
Sharif will arrive at Islamabad on September 15. He will later go to Rawalpindi and Lahore.
He made the announcement at a press conference here today.
Sharif said he would never enter into any agreement with President Musharraf. He went on to say that Musharraf's uniform was not an issue for him, as the main concern was the General's eight-year "illegitimate rule."
His decision to return to Pakistan comes a week after the Supreme Court gave a landmark verdict, paving the way for the PML (Nawaz) leader and his brother Shahbaz Sharif to return to the country to contest in the forthcoming general elections.
Announcing the verdict on August 23, the apex court observed that the Sharif brothers are Pakistanis, and can participate in the national politics after coming back.
In a brief judgment, the court said that under Article 3 of the Constitution, no citizen of the country could be stopped from his or her return to home.
