Make pre-marriage AIDS tests compulsory: Congress MP
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) A Congress member today made a strong case in the Lok Sabha in favour of making HIV/AIDS test compulsory for boys and girls before marriage.
Ms Jhansi Rani raised the issue during Zero Hour.
She said pre-marriage tests would make the life of the couple safer.
In this context, she pointed out that out of 700,000 HIV/AIDS tests conducted in the country every year, about two to three per cent were found to be infected.
Ms Rani wanted the government to create awareness among the youngsters to undergo voluntary tests before marriage.
She said the government should create more HIV testing labs to encourage the people to undergo tests.
She suggested that the existing leprosy wards should be used for attending HIV patients.
