DRDO to export hardware system products in big way
Bangalore, Aug 30 (UNI) The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) is gearing up to exploit the vast export potential of hardware system products, especially to third world countries over the next decade.
Revealing this to UNI here, DRDO Chief Controller W Selwamurthy, who was in the city recently, said that though the main objective of DRDO was to meet the country's requirements, it would not hesitate to grab any export opportunity as ''our prices are competitive in the global market''.
However, he clarified that any product meant for export had to pass through the export control unit and ''we will be very selective in giving technology to other countries. We do not want to give technology to those who are not friendly to us,'' he asserted.
To a question, Mr Selwamurthy said DRDO had received requests from several countries for Brahmos missile and other Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) products. DRDO had also developed a novel concept to kill larvae of mosquitoes to prevent spread of chikungunya and dengue fever. An American company had shown keen interest in this product, he revealed.
He said India recently gave two systems of intra PC Radar system to Sri Lanka as a goodwill gesture. He hoped that it would convert into a big export order in the coming months. ''We have started in a modest way and it would result in a big way in another ten years,'' he hoped.
