China no longer potential enemy for Russians : Poll

Moscow, Aug 30 (UNI) Russians view China as the most friendly country in the world, while the United States is their key potential enemy, a poll conducted by All-Russia's Centre of Public Opinion today said.

According to the poll, China was favoured by 21 per cent of respondents.

China was followed by Germany and Belarus, each with a vote of 12 per cent.

Interestingly, Belarus was thought to be the most friendly country for Russians in 2006, while China was deemed the second potential enemy after the United States.

Though still leading in the list of ''unfriendly nations,'' the bad score of percentage for the United States reduced from 45 per cent in 2006 to 26 per cent in 2007.

The poll said former Soviet republic of Georgia with 19 per cent is the second enemy for the Russians, while the third leading position is shared by Britain, the Baltic nations and Ukraine with seven per cent each.
