Agra violence:12 cops suspended
Agra/Lucknow, Aug 30: Uttar Pradesh government has suspended 12 policemen in connection with yesterday's Agra violence, even as the situation was fast returning to normal in the curfew bound six police station areas today.
State additional director general of police (Law and order) Brij Lal told sources here today that the district authorities lifted curfew from Sadar police station area from this morning while it was relaxed from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs in Tajganj area.
Both the areas cover the historical Taj monument where several national and international tourists were staying in hotels. The administration had also allowed hassle free visit of tourists to the Taj from this morning.
However, Mr Lal said indefinite curfew will continue in four other police station areas of Mantola, Nai Ki Mandi, Loha Mandi and Rakabganj. Night curfew will also continue in the Tajganj area.
Altogether 30 people were arrested so far by the police for arson and creating violence after the killing of four youths in a road accident, the ADG said.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police(Agra) Hari Ram Sharma has suspended Traffic Inspector Jagbir Singh, Sub-inspector Hukum Singh, Head Constable Yogendra Singh, Jalaluddin, Avadhesh, Lekhraj and Veerpal for not controlling the traffic near the Shab-e-baraat function.
Other policemen suspended were Loha Mandi police station in-charge Ranjit Singh Rana, constable Rukampal Sharma, Surendra Singh, Pramod Kumar and Jai Singh.
Additional Police Superintendent of Agra Rahul Yadvendra Singh has also been transferred.
