Trains to have destination boards in regional languages

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) All trains will henceforth carry the destination boards in regional languages besides Hindi and English, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee announced in the House today.

The announcement followed the objection raised by Mr Braja Kishore Tripathy, MP, on May 17, 2007 regarding deletion of regional languages (except Tamil) from the Destination Boards in trains throughout the country.

Mr Chatterjee said the issue was discussed with leaders of various parties on August 3 and later with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.

The Railway Ministry has clarified that ''One destination board on each side of one coach will be in Hindi and English. The next coach will have the destination board in Hindi and the regional language pertaining to the originating station. The next coach will have destination board in Hindi and the regional language of the terminating station. This order will be repeated in subsequent coaches,'' Mr Chatterjee said.
