Sex workers rally against amendments to Act
Mysore, Aug 29 (UNI) 'Ashodya', a sex workers organisation, today took out a rally in the city against the proposed amendment to the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.
The members of the organisation staged a rally through the main streets. The members wore black bands on their arm and carried banners and placards, bearing slogans expressing their views on the amendment.
More than 100 sex workers participated in the protest and demanded that the Government take necessary measures to protect their interest.
''We are horrified to know through media reports that Union Women and Child Welfare Department had decided to send a proposal for amendments to the Union Cabinet against the interests of the sex workers. This would snatch our livelihood,'' said Rathnamma, President of the Ashodya.
Later, they submitted memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
