Semi-finalists spotted in Bhupinder Soccer

Sanawar, Aug 29 (UNI) Hosts Lawrence School, Sanawar will take on Sherwood College, Nainital while Bishop Cotton School, Shimla will clash with Pinegrove School, Subathu in the semi final of the 10th Bhupinder Singh Memorial Football Tournament being played at Lawrence School.

Pinegrove School topped pool A on the basis of scoring maximum number of goals and pushed last year's defending champions Sherwood College to second position in the league table in their group. Both teams had seven points each with two wins and one draw each.

Pinegrove School rounded of their league programme today with a 4-1 verdict over Doon School of Dehradun.

In another match of the day Yadvindra Public School of Patiala downed Bishop Cotton School of Shimla by 1-0 in a Pool B fixture.

From Pool B, hosts and runners-up Lawrence School topped with nine points with an all-win record in the four-team league programme and qualified for the semi-final.

In their last pool fixture, Lawrence School defeated Army Public School of Dagshai by 2-0 . The winners led1-0 at half time. Trapping a stray pass near the centre line, Karan Hora dashed down the middle before scoring Lawrence School's first goal with a solo effort in the 20th minute. Five minutes before the end, Penjo Wangchuk dribbled past a couple of APS defenders before scoring the second and last goal for the hosts. It was third successive win for Lawrence School in the four-team league phase.

Lawrence School had beaten their traditional rivals Bishop Cotton School of Shimla by 3-1 and YPS Mohali by 7-0 in the earlier matches.

Defending champions Sherwood College of Nanital also finished their league programme with two victories and one draw. In their last league fixture in pool A, Sherwood College outplayed Yadvindra Public School of Mohali by 3-0. Gosal stole the show for Sherwood College as he scored two goals within a span of four minutes. His first goal came in the 30th minute and second in the 34th minute.

Khanal made the victory margin more authentic with a fine goal in the 50th minute.

In their earlier matches, Sherwood had edged Doon School by 1-0 and played 1-1 draw with Pinegrove School of Subathu.
