Rebel killed, commando injured in encounter
Guwahati, Aug 29 (UNI) An ULFA rebel was killed and an Assam Police commando injured in an encounter near Changsari, in Kamrup district early this morning.
Police said suspected ULFA rebels, holed up in a house at Borahatchuk village under Kamalpur police station, opened fire on a police team which had launched a search operation in the area after specific tip-offs.
The Assam police commando was injured when the rebels lobbed a grenade. The entire house in which the rebels were taking shelter burnt after a grenade exploded inside it.
Police later recovered the body of an ULFA cadre, identified as Sampak Sarma alias Bhagin, along with a loaded AK 56 and a grenade.
Abducted FCI executive director PC Ram was killed in a crossfire between police and ULFA rebels nearly a month back at Borka village, adjacent to the encounter site.
