Railways' freight earnings up 8.76 per cent

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) The performance of Railways in respect of loading went up from 233.21 million tonnes during April-July 2006 to 247.05 MT during the corresponding period this year, registering an increase of 5.93 per cent.

Freight earnings also increased from Rs 13145.87 crore to Rs 14297.74 crore during the period, showing an increase of 8.76 per cent.

A ministry official today said passenger earnings went up from Rs 5521.89 crore during April-July 2006 to Rs 6216.57 crore during the same period this year, showing an increase of 12.58 per cent.

The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) produced 91 coaches during July this year while Chitranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF) produced 14 electric locomotives, 19 diesel locomotives and 76 coaches respectively.

Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) produced 11764 wheels and 5334 axles during the same period.

The punctuality percentage of mail/express trains was 93.9 per cent in Broad Gauge and 99.3 per cent in Metre Gauge during July this year compared to 93.7 per cent and 98.4 per cent respectively during the same period last year.
