Himalayan Eagles expedition concludes Zanskar trek

Chandigarh, Aug 29 (UNI) A team of eleven Air Warriors of the 25 Squadron, Air Force, also known as the Himalayan Eagles, has successfully completed their high altitude trekking expedition in the great Zanskar region of the Himalayas.

The trekking expedition, which has been undertaken to mark the platinum jubilee of the Indian Air Force (IAF), was flagged off from here by Air Commodore M Sud, AOC 12 Wing on August three.

The team reached the starting point Padam on August seven after high altitude acclimatization at Leh. Despite being amateur trekkers, the team successfully completed one of the toughest treks in the Himalayas.

Zanskar trek is amongst one of the toughest treks of the world.

The route is highlighted by the beautiful landscape of Kargil, Suru and Zanskar valley.

The team covered around 150 Kms from Padam to Lamayuru, negotiating high passes ranging upto 17000 feet, fast flowing icy rivers and glaciers.

25 Sqn AF is one of the premier Squadrons of IAF, responsible for airlifting men and material for maintenance of forward posts of the country situated in the hostile mountainous region.
