Government to set up Uranium processing plant

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Government has plans to set up Uranium processing plants in the country, Minister of state in Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said today.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha Mr Chavan said, new Uranium processing plants are proposed to be set up one each at Tummalapalle in the Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh (AP), Serapally in Nalgonda district of AP and Mawthabah in West Khashi Hills districts of Meghalaya.

He said the uranium processing plant at Tummalapalle has been approved by the Government and is expected to be commissioned within 36 months from the zero date. Various pre-project activities for the proposed processing plants at Seripally and Mawthabah have been taken up. However, the project will be taken up only after all statutory clearences are obtained and an investment decison is taken by the Government.
