Manipur: Former Education Secretary shot at
Imphal, Aug 29: Militants shot at the former secretary of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur(BSEM) for his alleged involvement in bribery cases.
Mr Ph Nandakumar Sharma was shot at his leg by suspected Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup ultras last night, police today said.
Nandakumar, who was placed under suspension by the government, had been nabbed by the KYKL rebels. The outfit alleged that the former secretary had given all the details of 'wrong appointments and corruption cases'.
The KYKL had also charged a minister in the O.Ibobi Singh government with involvement in saving the official.
The militant group had charged the former secretary with being involved in giving contract work for printing and designing text books to a particular printing press.
The KYKL claimed that some officials in the Board were wrongly promoted and it had asked the officials to explain within ten days.
Police said the injured former secretary was found by some people here and rushed to the hospital. He was stated to be out of danger.
Police further said a suspected militant was shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles midnight last night. A 9 mm pistol was also recovered from his possession.
The body was now kept at the morgue of the RIMS hospital.
