New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Acknowledging its vital contribution in the safety of women and children in the Capital, the Delhi Police's 'Parivartan' programme launched two years back to bring about a cognitive difference in their value system, has been awarded the prestigious ISO certification.

A highly intensive programme, 'Parivartan' while focusing on both -- the potential victim as well as potential offender -- employs new techniques of communication to uproot the evil of crime against women and children, said DCP (North-West) Manish Agarwal.

''Initially the programme, which unleashes the cumulative energies of law enforcement agencies, academicians, social workers, NGOs, community members, educational institutions and citizens on the perpetrators of violence, was launched in 20 police beats in North-West District but now extended to 50 beats.'' It was a pioneering effort in the history of Indian Police through which women Police Officers supervise and patrol the area to combat and prevent crime against women which has brought crime against them in general, and rape and sexual assault in particular, down considerably, he added.

''Besidea this, our officers have been able to solve domestic disputes, apprehend eve-teasers and initiate action against ruffians in their area.'' The programme has received the 'Webber Seavey Award-2006' for quality in law enforcement by IACP, USA, nominated for IBM International Award -2007 for innovation by Harvard University, selected as the best practice for gender mainstreaming by Ministry of Woman&Child Development (GOI) and UNDP and Nodal Officer of 'Parivartan' Dr Sagar Preet Hooda, Additional DCP (North-West) specially invited to make a presentation on the programme at the Gender Institute, LSE, London.
