New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Reacting to reports about its resident doctors threatening to go on strike alleging a delay in awarding of their degrees, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has said the administration has put in place several contingency measures to handle the situation in case the medicos proceed on strike.

''An emergency meeting was called late last night in the office of the Director, AIIMS, under his chairmanship to discuss the situation and plan for preventive measures to handle the situation concerning patient care and running of the hospital services in case the resident doctors proceed on strike. The entire situation was assessed and contingency plans are in place,''AIIMS media incharge M K Singh said in a statement issued here.

He, however, asserted that the entire institute, including patient care services, were functioning normally.

''The staff and the resident doctors who are on duty are working as per schedule. The situation will be constantly monitored,''Dr Singh said.

According to reports, the resident doctors have threatened to go on strike alleging a delay in awarding of their degrees. They allege that about 400 AIIMS scholars have not been awarded their degrees for the past two years as AIIMS president and Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has yet to put his signature on them.

The resident doctors last night carried out a protest march towards Dr Ramadoss' house in Safdarjung Enclave last evening but were stopped at Nirman Bhawan.
