BRO labourers in Arunachal withdraw strike

Itanagar, Aug 29 (UNI) The indefinite strike called by the labourers under Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at Tawang, West Kameng and East Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh since Thursday was called off today.

The BRO works for the regular maintenance and construction of roads in this strategic state of Northeast.

The labourers were demanding a hike in daily wages considering the difficult hilly terrains and high altitude.

They claimed the wages paid to them were comparatively lower than that of states like Jammu&Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya.

The union leaders called upon all its members to resume their duty immediately after the assurance from the BRO authority stating that the revision of casual paid labour wages has been already ordered and matter was under active consideration, informed official sources here today.
