Biometric system likely in AP social welfare hostels

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 29 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to implement biometric system in Social Welfare hostels all over the State to check malpractices, Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said today.

Talking to UNI here, he said ECIL and other companies have given power point presentations in Hyderabad in this regard. The biometric system would help to know the actual number of students attending the hostels and there would be no wastage of funds, he added.

Referring to employment generation, Mr Bose said the Employment Generation Mission, headed by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, had conducted a survey on the manpower needs of small, medium and big industries in the State, which revealed that ten lakh skilled persons were needed. In the wake of the survey, the Chief Minister held a meeting with various industrialists and arranged apprenticeship for those who had passed out of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) by allotting Rs 20 crore towards their stipend.

He said ITI passed youth would undergo three months apprenticeship in industries with a stipend of Rs 1,000 per month.

They would be later employed in the industry that trained them. The programme had been taken up in Medak district as a pilot project to benefit 25,000 youth, he added.
