Bank manager arrested for accepting bribe

Sambalpur, Aug 29 (UNI) A team of CBI officers from Rourkela caught a bank manager red handed today while accepting bribe from a farmer to sanction his loan.

The team arrested the bank manager and the broker after bribe money of Rs 5,000 was recovered from his possession.

CBI sources said one farmer Gadana Mirdha of Gaurtikra village under Bargarh district approached the branch manager of UCO bank at Gogbhaga under Sambalpur district for a loan under gold card scheme by mortgaging three acres of arable land.

But branch manager B S Guru demanded Rs 5000 and instructed him to pay the amount through a local broker.

The farmer intimated the matter to the SP of CBI at Bhubaneswar who through his Rourkela office executed a plan to nab the manager.

As per the plan the farmer handed over the cash to the broker just out side the bank premises today who later handed over the entire cash to the manager.

The bank manager kept Rs 4000 with him and gave Rs 1000 to the broker as his share.The CBI team waiting near the bank, trapped both the manager and the broker.

The broker and the manager were arrested and would be produced at the designated court at Bhubaneswar, CBI officials sources said.
