Agra violence: CM meets Governor

Lucknow, Aug 29: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and her cabinet colleague Satish Chandra Mishra today met Governor T V Rajeswar against the backdrop of Agra violence.Sources here said that the two held a one-to-one discussion with the Governor for over an hour at Raj Bhawan this morning.

Though the government has so far not given details of the meeting, it is learnt that the issue of ongoing violence in Agra, which started this morning, also featured in the discussion.

This is perhaps the first meeting of the Bahujan Samaj Party president with the Governor after she came to power three months ago.

Recently, former chief minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had held a lengthy discussion with Mr Rajeswar.

He had handed over a memorandum to the Governor in which the SP leader had feared communal violence ahead of assembly bypolls in Suar Tanda constituency.

Violence rocked several parts of Agra city early today after four youths from the minority community were crushed to death by a speeding truck. So far police had not been able to contain the violence.
