About 90,000 persons given anti retroviral treatment

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) As many as 89,547 persons -- 6,383 of them children -- have been provided anti retroviral treatment (ATR) in the country since the ATR programme was launched on April 1, 2004, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

The treatment was provided at 127 ART centres functioning across the country, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said in a written reply.

X X X SUICIDES: A total of 113,914 suicides were recorded in the country in 2005 by the National Crime Records Bureau.

The figures were 113,697 and 110,851 in 2004 and 2003, respectively, Dr Ramadoss said.

X X X PREGNANCY: The is no proposal for compulsory registration of pregnant women, the Minister said.

X X X PIOs: A total of 151,891 Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) documents have been issued to Persons of Indian Origin till date, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said.
