12 personnel missing in Bastar: Chhattisgarh DGP

Raipur, Aug 29 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Director-General of Police Vishwaranjan today said that 12 security personnel were missing after Maoists ambushed a police team near Bastar division's Tarlametta village this afternoon.

''A search is still underway and a clear picture will emerge only late in the night as additional personnel have been rushed to the spot,'' he told UNI here.

The incident took place at about 1500 hrs when two platoons were on patrol in a dense forest near Tarlametta about 60 km from Dornapal.

Bastar police said that there was no motorable road to the spot hence the personnel would have to proceed on foot with extreme caution in view of the possibility of naxal landmines. Therefore, a search was difficult in the area, particularly during dark hours.
