Imphal, Aug 28 (UNI) The NH 39 and 53 blockade continued for the second day in Manipur today, following a stir by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDCC).

The committee had been demanding full revenue district status for the Sadar Hills, which is currently under Senapati district.

Police said inter-state bus services were cancelled for the second day, as the committee had called a 48-hour general strike from midnight of August 26.

With the government and educational institutions closed down by the committee members, life was affected badly in the state.

The agitators blocked the roads by burning tyres and even pelted stones on moving vehicles.

The Sadar hills with three Assembly segments had been demanding a full district status, since the last 35 years.
