Need for developing human resources stressed

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (UNI)The need for developing human resources to withstand the competetive business world and the importance of choosing the right employees was stressed by several speakers at a seminar titled 'Building Engagement - Opportunities and Challenges.' In his opening remarks, Dr Varma Vegesna, Chairman, CII Vizag Zonal Council and Managing Director, Lazarus Hospitals, stressed on the importance of HR in the very changing and competing business world.

According to a CII release quoting him here today, the process of spotting the right talent is absolutely critical in the current scenario across sectors.

In his theme address, C G Patil, Vice Chairman, CII Vizag Zonal Council and General Manager - Marketing and Director Commercial Designate of Vizag Steel Plant opined that employee engagement was a key driver of organisational performance.

He also cited that recent studies highlighted the fact that employee disengagement was a global epidemic; organisations still clearly had much work to do to ensure their workforce were properly inspired and motivated.

In his special address, Mr B Ashok Reddy, President - Global HR and Corporate Affairs, Infotech Enterprises Ltd, said in his career spanning over a decade, the industry was facing attrition levels which were unheard of a decade back.

The unusual shift in the top management mindset was evident with companies emphasising on the importance of employees who were their 'most important assets.' Giving keynote address, Mr Pradeep Dhobale,Chairman, CII-Andhra Pradesh and Chief Executive, ITC Ltd- PSPD, opined that India as a country had achieved a lot in every field with the economy growing at nine to ten per cent.

He also mentioned that apart from all the contributions from government, industry and others, India had the huge demographic advantage.

This was where we had a real edge over other countries including China, he added during the seminar which was held at Vishakapatnam yesterday.
